Rod Undy and Karen McGeoch took over running the Fleece on 5th September 2016, opening an exciting new chapter in the story of our community pub, and we are all delighted to have them in charge.
A welcome from Karen and Rod
It’s hard to believe that a short while ago Rod and I were contemplating life here at The Fleece Inn and now it’s actually happening. We’re in, and things are finally taking shape.
The kitchen and all the kitchen equipment is undertaking an overhaul that will improve the way we work and hopefully provide a better workspace to create the lovely wholesome pub food we look forward to delivering – consistently. The cellar has been reorganised to operate efficiently with new adaptations that will improve the quality of the beer we sell and provide a more effective workspace. We want to increase the choice of ales as well, so that we can introduce a more extensive range of guest ales.
We are also preparing for a visit from Oakham Ales - who extend the ‘Oakademy of Excellence’ Award to those pubs that deliver their ale in ‘tip top’ condition with regards to temperature and clarity etc. Our little Ale House in Mumbles scored a massive 99% and was the second pub in Wales to achieve this award. So we’re also hoping to do well here at The Fleece.
Rod and I love the community spirit here in Hillesley and our commitment to making The Fleece Inn the hub of the village is top of our list. We have a great team behind us and truly appreciate the welcome we have received from everyone particularly our staff all of whom have made the transition as seamless as possible.
A Warm Welcome guaranteed
The Fleece is a traditional, friendly Cotswolds village pub serving local real ale seven days a week, and traditional pub food Weds-Sun. The Cotswold Way passes very close by, making The Fleece a popular stop off for walkers. Also nearby are Westonbirt Arboretum and Badminton, home of the famous Horse Trials.
Food & Drink
We pride ourselves on the warmth of our welcome and the friendliness of our team. Our meals are home made and feature locally sourced fresh produce. We aim for consistently good quality at reasonable prices.
An inclusive pub
We welcome all comers including families. Dogs are also welcome so long as they are under control and on a lead. We request that you do not take dogs into the lounge/restaurant. Walkers are asked to leave muddy boots outside or in the porch.
We run activities all year round, including celebrations of high days and holidays, as well as major cultural and sporting events.
We guarantee a warm welcome and a friendly ambience whether you are a regular, a passing visitor, or just dropping in for a good cup of coffee (we also provide free WiFi). We’d love to see you.
